Choosing Ignorance

*

*

Remaining ignorant when truth is available is a choice that many make. Pick and choose what fits into your belief system. Americans and many others are comfort seekers and do not like disturbances. Part of being American is wanting to be looked up to. Americans need to show off who they are. They think they are superior and it is their job to enlighten the world with what they are. Here in Mexico Americans are looked at as being naive and blundering, without bad intent, for the most part. Americans are so sure of their selves they do not see that there are other ways that are not theirs, not just people being wrong. Americans do not see they are being laughed at and being tolerated.
Americans see themselves as helpers of the world and take this to heart like it is true, that it is necessary for their make up. When you point out to an American all the evil their country does, they say, yes but what about all the help we give. They hang onto this image like it is their own and when anyone tries to show them other views, they become immediately defensive. It is very sad, but Americas better side only serves as a smokescreen for the much worse that gets excused or hidden. These people hold on to what they themselves are and want their country to be that way too. There comes a time when what a country , or a person, does gets looked at as a whole, not its various parts. America is an evil country, it abuses the world and itself. American people respond to power, not truth, and whoever has the most power sways them. They can exist with the truth available to them, but never really let it enter their reality. They keep it outside themselves. They are aware that their country has done some very wrong things, but they grab hold of what they see as what it did right and use that for an excuse. Ever shifting their view to the more acceptable. Remaining ignorant, that’s how the American is able to be proud of his country and think it will succeed.

Americans, in general, are the world's teenagers.

Mullets, jealous is one of their delusions, they are jealous of each other and think the rest of the world is. It is such an American trait, one that leads to competition.

Pisces, teenagers yes, wanting to still be taken care of and have what they want when they want. Not grown up yet. Unfortunately they aren´t the type of teenagers that make good adults tho.

The comment I wanted to leave is too long for posting here. Instead, I've placed it in a Further Left Forum post titled "Americans Or ?".

That ignorance on the part of americans comes at a heavy price. Close to 3000 of their folks went straight up to heaven (or down to hell) for precisely that ignorance. So let us be clear; ignorance is seldom harmless. When a nation decides never to see or acknowledge, it ought to know what's coming it's way. The language of the gun is the only language that an american finds understandable. Let's go for the holster!

American mentality, Atanu, cowboys need to fade into the past. There are many deaths for a country, not just killing its citizens. America was founded on guns and they continue with them, it is time to end them both.

I wonder if there are any countries that were founded or are kept sovereign without guns? I realize that the United Stetesons like to take theirs out and play with them more than any other, but is there anywhere that calls itself a state, a civilization with borders that was born with out the labor pains of war?

I just realized the bitter irony of my last comment: Of all the countries founded in the past fifty years, have any been established or are any being upheld without guns sold them by the United Stetsons? Can't get away from the evangelistic aggression, weapon proliferation, violence origination rap, oh my land of the cowboys. I so want to love you like I did before I woke up to the Ugly American face shown the rest of the world by your representatives from our arrogant diplomats to our rude plaid bermuda'd tourists. Pocho is right, fucking pigs! I wish I could get over trying to exclude myself the good people I know from that epithet — I suppose I must if I want to keep on getting up in the morning and want to fight the good fight the only way I have found that does any good at all.

Never give up, thats all any of us can do, just keep trying in the ways that suit us best. Its a heartbreaker when you think what could have been, but it never was.

Good point in your earlier post, Greg. Yes, every civilised nation has laws, laws that go to the extent of even forcing people to help one another in case they just chose not to. Every law as you know is backed by force, and the use of guns within a nation plays a crucial role in that. The thing is, and this is imporant, only the state has the rights to such use of force. In a nation like the United States however, even the common man does, at least most of the states anyway. The argument americans provide is that if a man could not take care of himself, how can he expect the state to do that for him? But that is a wrong one, though like most arguments that you hear in the US, seems to make sense on the surface. Yes, the state can take care of me, for it has the means. And yes, given the means maybe I could have defended myself to, but the social cost of giving common people like me the means far outweighs the social benefit in doing so. Hence guns are good, but only for the government.

One thing struck me back then, as it always does when I hear typical american arguments. They do make some sense on the surface. The tragedy is, there are very few people who provide logical and correct counter arguments to those. Most in the USA, the Right and the Left, prefer to remain deliberately silent on those crux issues that matter, in the form of questions or answers. Another example comes to mind. Most leftists in the USA say : "Iraq was wrong because there were no WMD's". Does it mean that had there been the WMD's in Iraq, then it would be ok to attack the nation? Surely that is the implication... but we all know that those same leftists would say that the war was wrong even if those weapons were found. And thus, weapons are not the issue. The argument instead should have been that attacking Iraq is wrong, whether they had the weapons or not. If our possession of WMD's is a credible deterrent against other nations using theirs, then why should we make an exception for Iraq?? That's one of the logical responses, you might have another.

Not to say I am an anti left, but I disagree with the left in the USA. Like I said, the left makes points sidelining the crucial ones. I wish I knew why.

One of the sore realizations I came to while writing and researching my latest post about the swelling of the government' portion of the national income from 12% in 1940 to 44% in 2006 was in direct response to social programs pushed for by the left and gladly accommodated by the neocons as a convenient front. I think the Mayans were the last population whose civilization and its approach to living on the planet became such a bad idea they all admitted it, abandoned the halls of arrogant power and went back to tribal life. Are there others? Could any nation do that now and not just get swallowed by their neighbors?

Yodood said...

I must clarify my using the "left" as the cause of the expansion of people in and the share of national income used by the government. I meant the American left — the bloody Democrats — who along with the bloody Republicans have, like two hands, massaged the government control into a non-responsive non-representative Remocratictic Depublic. If one quits being mezmerized by the hands, the body they serve begins to appear in the shadows,

Gregrandgar, Maybe some nations need to get swallowed by their neighbor and digested into something else. America can´t back down on its own but when it finishes its fall perhaps all that will be left is tribes.

It takes good eyes to see in the shadows and I doubt many want to look, especially when it feels so much better not too.
